Rt 50 'Pardon our Dust' Meeting Recap

Jun 30, 2012

On June 28th, Dulles District Superviosr Matt LeTourneau and Delegate David Ramadan sponsored a Route 50 construction update ‘Pardon Our Dust’ meeting at the Dulles South Public Safety Center.

Representatives from VDOT and Shirely Contracting were on hand to provide project construction information.  The contractor is currently constructing temporary lanes to shift all traffic onto existing westbound lanes to allow work on the eastbound lanes without impeding traffic flow.  Upon completion of the eastbound lanes, traffic will then be shifted to the eastbound lanes to allow for the reconstruction of the westbound lanes.

Construction on Route 50 began in September 2011 is being conducted in stages.  Upon completion in December 2014, Route 50 will have six travel lanes, upgraded synchronized signals, additional turn lanes, and a 10 foot shared use path on both the north and south sides of the road.  The project cost is $99.9 million and is currently on schedule and budget.
